Heikki, what are your plans for these two upcoming weeks in New York?
- The schedule of this trip consists of two weeks observation session in Sound One, post-production company for film sound in New York. First week I'm going to spend in mixing studio with Dominick Tavella, while he is mixing one of the upcoming feature films. The second week is going to concentrate more with foley recordings, editing and mixing. I have also an opportunity to have a visit in other foley studios in NYC.
Why did you choose to go to New York for an observation tour instead of somewhere else?
- One of the biggest reasons to go to NYC is that I have a very good contact there, which gives me a change to go deeper in the ways of working with films. And NYC films are more interesting from my point of view. I'm not very interested in huge projects or Hollywood TV-series. These people who I know in Sound One are working all the time with directors like Jim Jarmusch, Darren Aronofsky and D.A. Pennebaker. These are also the film makers I admire a lot.
How about expectations and goals for this tour?
- Quite often when people who are working with films meet each other, it is more than just hand shakings. Last time when I met Mr. Tavella, we spend a lot of time sharing our thoughts about films we have done, what are the influences in our lives, and so on. I'm quite sure that we continue that talking. One of the biggest things on film making is the passion! You have to be able to give something out, if you want someone to get a great experience when watching the film.
Here at FilmArc we are sure that you are going to have a very rewarding tour in New York. We are going to contact you after one week’s stay and ask how your tour has been so far. But until then, I wish you a very good and enjoyable trip!
-I'm already very pleased that I'm able to go NYC this way. Thanks to You, Film Arc. I have also raised the limit of MasterCard, so it also looks like I'm able to come back!
