Voddler provides video on demand service and it’s an alternative to illegal downloading. It’s being developed by a Swedish company.

The users get Voddler for free and can legally stream Film and TV-shows from the Internet. Voddler can provide unlimited video content distributed to any number of users by streaming. No limitation of content will enable you to have instant access to your old favorite movies as well as the newest blockbusters. The beta version of Voddler is out now.

Voddler is comparable to the service Spotify. The difference between the two is that Spotify is made to play music while Voddler is made for showing film and TV series.

Voddler is optimized to use on a big-screen TV with remote, not on a desktop monitor. The service is financed by commercials. Voddler is during the run of the beta version and the period of the software development only available in Sweden and some parts of Western Europe. Later on there will be a commercial free subscription and pay-per-view deal that will be available in almost every country in the world. Many people have requested invites to Voddler, today over 250 000 people are waiting for an invite. The 28:th of October 2009 it was released to all of the costumers of Bredbandsbolaget.
Voddler is built on open source from XBMC (Xbox Media Center), which is free software.

Voddlers vision

Voddler wants to make great movies available to everyone! A beta version of Voddler is now available to invited users; the official Voddler is due to be released later this year. During the beta trial they want to establish the quality of Voddler.

Company

Voddler was founded 2005 and has since developed a technology for video on demand. The technology is protected by several patent claims in USA, Europe and Japan.
On the 28:th of October Voddler announced that Walt Disney Company Ltd and Paramount Pictures signed agreements with Voddler and that they were are also opening their doors to some 500 000 new Voddler users. This means that you will be able to enjoy great movies from Disney, including Touchstone Pictures and Miramax Films, and Paramount Pictures, including DreamWorks Studios.

Voddler has gotten a lot of criticism from it’s users. Some thinks that it was released way to early. But the developers keep on working on it. So we here at Film Arc are very eager to see how Voddler turns out.
