MACHO MEN heads to Tribeca and wins at Tampere Film Festival!
Freetime Machos is a hilarious comedy about the most northern and third lousiest rugby team in the world. Directed by Mika Ronkainen and produced by Oulu based Klaffi productions, Freetime Machos is the first Finnish film selected to Tribeca film festival.The Film had worlds premiere in IDFA and festival circulation continued to Gothenburg, DocBarcelona, Eurodok 2010, Tribeca, HotDocs… and more to come, I’m sure of it. Theatrical distribution in Finland opened last weekend and hopefully Special Prize received from Tampere Film Festival will draw the audience to the theaters.
Film Arc also hopefully has something to do with films success – Freetime Machos trailer was done during the Trailer editing workshop in Oulu with a lot of good suggestions and comments from Sohini Sengupta and Craig Protzel (Mark Woollen & associates, LA). Trailer was finished just before worlds premiere in IDFA – take a look at it.
Music plays an important role in the film and director uses a lot of local talent – Jolly Jumpers, Samuli Putro, Brüssel Kaupallinen – actually the only talent, that is not from the northern Finland is Swedish Moto Boy. Klaffi has come up with pretty neat way to market the film, for example by doing a music video for Samuli Putros beautiful ending score:
Finnish premiere for the film was last week in Helsinki and Oulu and it opened in theaters during last weekend. Premiere party’s is something that these people know how to do – it’s such a fun that even Jolly Jumpers, band that just broke down is willing to play in Freetime Machos parties. Best parties during the IDFA I heard the rumors, dance until the dawn in Finnish premiere – I can’t wait how the parties in New York will turn out to be – watch out 25th of April NY!
