Uganda goes Norrbotten
Ljudbang in Luleå Sweden, that participates in the Film Arc project, is at the moment working with the sound editing on a film from Uganda, with the title IMANI.
The producer and director for the film Caroline Kamya, iVad, from Uganda visited Luleå and Ljudbang.
- This is my first feature movie. I’ve done shorts and other formats before, says Caroline. And she continues;
- IMANI is an honest film. It is three stories, about the different characters that actually do not meet. The movie covers both rich suburbs and the poor inner city.
The movie is shot in Uganda, but all post production, except for the editing, is made in Sweden. Caroline means that if you want the best result, you have to work international.
- Swedes are cool, and they get it, she says and laughs.

- We at Filmpool Nord are very proud to be able to finance this movie. It’s great, it’s a global world and the people want global stories. And by co-producing this movie it also brings more business to companies in Norrbotten. If we have to go international to create more jobs, then we are happy to do it, says Stina Almqvist from Filmpool Nord and the Film Arc.
- Per-Erik Svensson at Filmpool Nord called me the day before Christmas Eve and asked if we could do it. The catch was that we only had 3 weeks to do it. Normally it takes 12-15 weeks to do the post production sound on a movie. We also had to do some extra research, for example we didn’t know how a goat in Uganda sounded, says Mikael Brodin, Ljudbang.
IMANI premieres at the Berlin Film Festival on the 11:th of February. Caroline has got wild hopes for Berlin. IMANI competes for the Best First Feature Award. In 2007 Caroline participated at the Berlinale Talent Campus with a short film, and pitched for a feature.
- I didn’t make that exact feature. But now I’m going back to show them what I’ve done. They have been so supportive, says Caroline.
- We have also got another Film Arc company, a Luleå based production company, Levain Group represented in Berlin. The company, run by Steve Miell, has been accepted to the Co-production Market in Berlin to find financiers for his move Perish, says Stina.
Most of the financing of IMANI comes from Caroline’s production company iVAD.
- I don’t see obstacles. I’ve run my production company since 2004, and we have made lots of commercials, promotion films and so on. That enabled us to make this independent film. It’s the most interesting film we have made so far, says Caroline.
- The distribution in Sweden will be by Folkets Bio, and we are having discussions with SVT, but no decision has been made. Hopefully we will also get other TV-channels in Scandinavia, says co-producer Adel Kjellström from Röde Orm Film, Stockholm.
